Back in October and November Core samples of the Lake bottom were taken to locate Bedrock where the Bridge structure could be attached. As I understand the situation, the Worcester side had bedrock near the shore area but the Shrewsbury side did not have any bedrock near the shoreline. They drilled down to about 200 feet with no findings; however, bedrock was located about 100 feet back towards the White City Land area. Due to this discovery, a different Bridge design may take place, and more research as to the type of Bridge that can be built in respect to the property around the shoreline will have to be determined. More to follow. 04/01/09 - Article in Worcester T&G on Bridge at Lake Quinsigamond. 03/31/09 - Tuesday evening, Oak Middle School Auditorium, Shrewsbury, MA was the first open public information meeting to discuss the proposed project to replace or repair the Rt. 9 Bridge over Lake Quinsigamond. There was a presentation on the current conditions of the Bridge, then conceptual plans on several new designs on a complete new Bridge over the Lake. The meeting was very informative, and the new 'mock' designs presented had everyones attention. There was a formal Questions and Answer session after the presentation...and I believe everyone was satisfied on the results of this meeting. No decision has been made at this time. There will be other hearings scheduled before the final decision on the type design to be used will be decided. In the interim, the currect Bridge now has temperory repairs, but the conditions of the Bridge are deteriorating and it is estimated this Bridge (as is) has maybe a lifespan for another 5 years. Once a decision is made, the Bridge Replacement project could take 3 to 4 years to complete. This Web page will be updated as information is received. |
